Arvind Deep, Special Commissioner of Police briefed the media on the arrest of Khalistan terrorist Harminder Singh Mintoo on Monday and said that a special cell arrested him near the Nizamuddin parking lot. He said that Mintoo had trimmed his beard to hide in plain sight and so it was difficult to identify him. Deep said that Mintoo’s plan was to escape from Goa via Mumbai from New Delhi. He said that the DCP was monitoring the situation and the interrogation of Harminder Singh Mintoo was underway.
Deep also informed that media that the police was conducting further investigations based on the leads provided by Mintoo. He further stated that a pistol and 6 cartridges were recovered from Mintoo and a case has been lodged under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Following the Naba jailbreak, they state police was constantly in touch with Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh police, he added.
Deep also informed that the investigation on the matter was only in its preliminary’s stages and Harminder Mintoo was being interrogated. Harminder Mintoo was also reported to have been carrying money with him. Deep told the media that the entire escape was a pre-planned thing and Harminder Mintoo was part of the module of the escapees. Earlier, the Chief of the banned Khalistan Liberation Force, Harminder Singh ‘Mintoo’, who had escaped the high-security Nabha prison on Sunday was nabbed by the police at Delhi Railways Station on Monday. According to reports, Mintoo was arrested by the Delhi Police. As reported by the Deccan Chronicle, a team of the Punjab Police is expected to be bringing him back to prison. Mintoo and the 5 others had escaped the prison as a group of armed men, dressed policemen had stormed the Nabha Central Jail in cars, a little before 9 am on Sunday morning.
