Mumbai local train services have resumed on the Central line, and protesters at the Badlapur station have been dispersed. Mumbai’s lifeline, the local trains, had earlier come to a standstill, with services being disrupted between Karjat and Ambernath due to public agitation. The protests by public happened at the Badlapur station due to the day-to-day delay in train services. The protest is reported to have been impromptu, with people climbing down onto the railway tracks to express their displeasure at perpetual delays in trains. The agitation started after a technical snag delayed one of the trains. Passengers who were waiting at the Badlapur station, stopped the incoming train, instead of boarding it. The disruption caused due to train being halted has resulted in inconvenience for several people, especially given the fact that it has taken place during office going hours.

“GM DRM,officers directed early morning to help passengers in #Badlapur, sort out their problems.Requesting all not to agitate, all steps taken,” Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted. “Due to public agitation at Badlapur.trains stopped btwn Karjat and kalyan.GRP and RPF has reached to the site. Sub.Services btwn CSTM – Ambernath and CSTM -Kalyan are running.Trains stopped btwn Karjat and Ambernath due to public agitation,” the Central Railway Twitter handle tweeted. “Karjat passengers from Kalyan are permitted to travel by 11025 Bhusaval-Pune Express. 11301 CST-KSR Bengaluru Udyan Exp sch dep 0805 hrs on 12.8.2016 is RESCHEDULED at 1125 hrs on 12.8.2016 due to public agitation at Badlapur,” other tweets said.

This is not the first time that the Mumbai local train services have ground to a halt. Delay in train services is a regular feature during the monsoon season, and angry commuters have time and again protested on the same. While steps are being taken to better the functioning of the train services, a lot more needs to be done before some order can be brought about to ensure timely running of trains.
