On Tuesday morning, a fire broke out at the Maker Tower at Cuffe Parade area in Mumbai. Ten fire tenders and six water tankers were rushed to the spot. The incident took place in ‘A’ Wing of Maker Chamber at Cuff Parade at 6.37 am and, therefore, there were people sleeping in the tower at the time of incident, an official from fire brigade control room said. Two persons were killed in the fire while 11 others were rescued, according to police and firefighters.
“The fire broke out at the 20th floor of residential Maker Chamber following which 10 fire tenders rushed to the spot,” a senior official from the fire brigade said.
ANI also reports that the house which got gutted in the fire belonged to Shekhar Bajaj (MD, Bajaj Electricals). In the Bajaj family flat, some family members and domestic help were stuck. All have been rescued without injury, said an official from the Mumbai Fire Brigade.
The blaze was said to be in control and the cooling operations have begun, said the official from fire brigade.
The incident comes a day after atleast 20 patients died in a major fire broke out at the Sum Hospital in Bhubaneswar on Monday evening. The fire, suspected to have originated from the dialysis ward on the first floor, quickly spread to other areas,including the ICU on the same floor, of the four-storey hospital building. The commissionerate of police and fire brigade personnel along with volunteers and hospital staff launched a massive rescue operation as more than 500 indoor patients were trapped in the building, hospital officials said.
