In a touching gesture, 90-year-old Chandana from Anantpur village in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh sold five goats to build a toilet for her 102-year-old mother-in-law. The nonagenarian was forced to sell livestock as she did not get any help from government authorities to construct the toilet, according to an Indian Express report.
Chandana says she thought of building the toilet after her mother-in-law who had gone out to defecate fell down and fractured her leg. Chandana’s son told ANI that the family did not get any assistance from the village headman and the Kanpur district authorities. Chandana was therefore forced to sell five goats to build the toilet.
The village headman when asked why no assistance was provided to Chandana attempted to shift the blame on to the district authorities. The village headman said ”We gave a list to the district authorities, but not a single toilet has been built in the village till now.”
