Most people in the country irrespective of age and income levels are supporting the demonetisation step of the government on Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, a poll conducted by C-Voter has suggested. As per the poll, about 80-86 percent of people said that the inconvenience caused by it is worth the effort as the demonetisation has been done to control the menace of black money from the country.
It conducted the survey in at least half the total Parliamentary constituencies on Monday. The C Voter found that demonetisation step has got wide range of support. Numbers remained high when broken down on the basis income levels, age groups and area of residence.
At least, 86 percent of the respondents rural and urban areas have said the inconvenience was worth it.
The most number of support have come from those from the higher income group, 90.6 percent of whom said it was a welcome step. The lowest level of support in the ‘below 25′, 25-45, 45-60 and 60+ was 83.3 percent.
The thumbs up on the move also emerged for those who thought the demonetisation was not only a great move but was also well implemented’. This was reflected in 71 percent of those surveyed in urban areas of the country, 65.1 percent in semi-rural zones and 59.4 percent of rural respondents.
Not less than 23.8 percent of urban, 24.3 percent of semi-urban and 36 percent of rural respondents supported the charge of some Opposition parties, which said that demonetisation was a ‘good step but poorly implemented’.
