In his speech today, PM Modi talked about the highlight of the visit, which was the signing of the the bilateral civilian nuclear cooperation deal – the negotiations for the pending deal were going on for 6 long years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a 3-day trip to Japan, has announced a number of positives that have emerged from his meetings with his counterparts and other authoritative figures there. In his speech today, PM Modi talked about the highlight of the visit, which was the signing of the the bilateral civilian nuclear cooperation deal – the negotiations for the pending deal were going on for 6 long years. However, this is still subject to ratification by Japanese Parliament. The agreement will give India access to sensitive technologies to generate electricity. Soon after signing the landmark agreement PM Narendra Modi said, “Our strategic partnership is not only for the good & security of our own societies. It also brings peace, stability & balance to region. I wish to thank Prime Minister Abe for the support extended for India’s membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.” While addressing the India-Japan Press Statement in Tokyo, Prime Minister said:

1. The recently inked agreement for cooperation in Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy marks a historic step in our engagement to build a clean energy partnership: PM Modi

2. We are united in our resolve to combat the menace of terrorism, especially cross-border terrorism;

3. Dynamism and depth of our ties has increased with passage of time with continuing commitment to our partnership;

4. Our cooperation in this field (Civil Nuclear Agreement) will help us in tackling climate a change as well;

5. Japan has been a valuable partner in India’s journey to eco prosperity, infrastructure development, capacity building & technology advancement;

6. The ocean waters of the Indo-Pacific that lap the coast of Japan also form the surf that breaks on the shores of India;

7. Our strategic partnership will bring stability, peace and balance in both the countries;

8. We see Japan as our natural partner, there is vast scope in combining our resources.
