Ram Rahim Singh verdict: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today addressed the media in Delhi. His address comes days after the Punjab and Haryana High Court criticised his government over the number of casualties that took place on the day when Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim Singh was convicted. Talking to the media, Khattar said, “The situation is normal. Have submitted a report to party president Amit Shah.” He further said while defending his actions, “We have obeyed the orders of the court, there is peace in Haryana now.” While talking about Dera, he said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power with their support, Khattar said, “It’s a democracy, we appeal all groups and welcome support. That doesn’t mean you break law.” Even as the CM supported his own action in his address, the opposition is gunning for his resignation.
Further while talking about convicted godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s adopted daughter, he said, “Honeypreet Insan appealed to CBI Court that she be allowed in Court and also inside the jail as a helper but jail authorities didn’t allow.”
Earlier in the week, on August 26, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had slammed the Haryana Government, for the ongoing unrest in the state, post conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in 1999 rape case saying that “you let Panchkula burn for political benefits”, according to news agency ANI. The high court had further asked the state government for details of the Dera chief’s movable and immovable properties in Punjab and Haryana till next hearing. Khattar was also attacked by the leaders of the opposition, who accused him of failing to handle the situation. While talking about the situation that has arrived in the state, authorities in Haryana said they were braced up for any eventuality and would prevent a re-run of the events that broke out in Panchkula on Friday.
