Militants tonight attacked a CRPF camp in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district but fled after the security forces retaliated. There were no casualties in the incident, police said. The militants fired upon the CRPF camp of 182 battalion at Tahab at around 8.00 pm, a police official said. A nearby police team rushed to assist the CRPF personnel to repulse the attack and the militants fled from the spot, he said.
A bullet-riddled body of a man was found in Kupwara district of north Kashmir earlier today, police said. The body of Shahnawaz Ahmad Khan (32) was recovered from an orchard at upper Naghama village in Handwara area of the district, a police spokesperson said. A case of murder has been registered and investigation is underway, he said, adding the body has been handed over to the family members after completion of legal formalities.
Also, two brothers were today arrested in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir after demonetised notes with a face value of over Rs 37 lakhs were recovered from them, police said.Farooq Ahmad Labroo and his brother Mohammad Shafi, residents of Sumbal area of Bandipora district, were detained by railway police at Mazhama station this morning, a police officer said. He said old currency notes of Rs 500 with a total face value of Rs 37.20 lakh were recovered from their possession. Both the persons were handed over to police for investigation, the officer said.
