Backing off from Lalu Yadav rally cum show of strength – BJP Bhagao, Desh Bachao – that is scheduled to be held on August 27, BSP supremo Mayawati today made it very clear to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav that her party will share the stage if the math of seat sharing in polls is solved in advance. “RJD has been told that the BSP will share stage with a party only if it’s decided in advance which party will contest on how many seats. ” Mayawati was quoted as saying by ANI. After losing the Uttar Pradesh state election badly, it seems that Mayawati is planning well in advance for the upcoming general elections in 2019.
Mayawati’s move has left Lalu isolated as Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi have declined their participation in the rally. Experts said that the development is also seen that the Opposition parties have distanced themselves as the RJD chief’s image was facing a new low because of the cases against him and his family.
The BSP supremo’s move came as a big set back for Lalu, who in fact offered a Rajya Sabha seat from Bihar to Mayawati after she resigned from the upper house last month. The RJD which is trying to unite the Opposition parties against the BJP before Lok Sabha elections of 2019 is apparently failing in its attempts.
Also in Patna, Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi had said holding a political rally at a time when 18 districts of the state are facing flood fury and more than 1.5 crore people are affected shows “insensitivity” of the RJD. However, Lalu who is firm to hold rally, hit back saying,”Sushil Modi shouldn’t try to teach me. Will the floods in the state end if I postpone the rally?”
