Madhya Pradesh farmers protest: Hours after being stopped in Ratlam district while on his way to meet families of the deceased farmers, five of whom had lost their lives in firing incidents recently, senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia was arrested under section 151, an ANI report has said.Speaking to reporters before being arrested, Scindia said even as section 144 has been imposed in the region, he was ready to go alone. “Although section 144 has been imposed, I told the police that i was ready to go to Mandsaur all alone. If a person wants to go alone, who can stop him”, he was quoted as saying by the agency.
Yesterday, Scindia had said that the death of five farmers in the state in alleged police firing was a blot on the BJP Government in the state. He went on compare the BJP regime to “Hitler’s rule”. “The police firing on farmers agitating for getting right price for their produce and waiver of loans, which resulted in the death of the five of them is a blot on the head of Shivraj Singh’s government. It appears that Hitler’s rule is prevailing in the state. Chouhan has no right to remain in power,” the PTI quoted Scindia as telling reporters at the Indore Press Club.
It was announced last Saturday that the Congress leader would sit on a 72-hour-long ‘satyagraha’ from June 14 in Bhopal in protest against the “anti-farmer policies” of the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government in Madhya Pradesh, a PTI report said. “Scindia will sit on a 72-hour long ‘satyagraha’ from 3 pm on June 14 at T T Nagar Dussehra Maidan in support of the farmers, who are holding protests across the state,” the agency had quoted Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi as saying. Earlier in the day, Patidar quota stir leader Hardik Patel., who was also on his way to Mandsaur was also detained in Neemuch, before being let off on bail, PTI said.
