Tuesday was a dark for India as it marked the first ISIS involving terror activity in the country. Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) Inspector General Aseem Arun revealed that security forces gunned down a terrorist early on Wednesday morning after an operation that lasted for nearly 10 hours in Lucknow’s Thakurganj. On the same day, a terrorist blast was reported in a Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train and it was followed by the arrest of 6 ISIS module members on Wednesday in Madhya Pradesh. However, this isn’t the first time that Indian security forces were involved in a stand-off against terrorists.

1. 26/11 Mumbai attacks
In November 2008, a series of attacks took place in Mumbai when 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba did the shooting and bombing attacks in 12 places which lasted for almost four days. The attacks started on 26th November and lasted until Saturday, 29th November 2008. About 164 people were reported dead during this unfortunate event.

2. Parliament attack
On 13 December 2001, nine terrorists entered the Indian parliament when about 100 people including top leaders like Home Minister LK Advani and Minister of State for Defence Harin Pathak were still believed to be inside the building. In 2013, the main accused in the case, Afzal Guru was sentenced to death after his mercy petition was rejected by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.
3. Batla house encounter
Operation Batla house took place on 19th September 2008 in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar when Delhi police were involved in a battle against Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorists. Two suspected terrorists, Atif Amin and Mohamed Sajid were killed in the incident while encounter specialist and Delhi Police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma also passed away in the incident.

4. Lucknow shootout
Security forces gunned down a terrorist early on Wednesday morning in an operation that lasted for nearly 10 hours in the thickly-populated Thakurganj area of Lucknow. The neutralised terrorist was identified as Safiullah, a member of the ISIS Khorasan module. After this, the state police conducted raids at multiple places.
5. Uri attack
In one of the most recent stand-offs, four heavily armed terrorists attacked the Indian army on September 18 2016, near the town of Uri in the Indian-administered state of Jammu and Kashmir. These terrorists were identified as members of militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed.
