Enquiry over the ‘encounter’ of 8 undertrial activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India(SIMI) was demanded by theCongress following the two different statements were given by police officials.
The controversy began when two videos of the act went viral. These videos showed a policeman shooting bullets into a man from a very close distance as another was seen searching the bodies for sharp weapons. These men had been successful in jailbreaks earlier as they had escaped from Khandwa some 3 years ago, by killing another security guard.

One of the police officials told reporters that the cops were provided leads by the locals who then tracked down the undertrials in Malikheda and shot them as an act of retaliation when the activists attacked them. Home Minister Bhupendra Singh told reporters that all the 8 activities had been identified and killed by the Bhopal Police. The eight activists were identified as Amzad, Zakir Hussain Sadiq, Mohammad Salik, Mujeeb Shaikh, Mehbood Guddu, Mohammad Kalid Ahmed, Aqeel and Majid, a police official said.
Meanwhile Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday praised the state police for their alertness and then went ahead to suspend 5 jail officials including Deputy- Inspector General and the Additional Director-General for the jailbreak by these men. He also announced a compensation of RS 10 lakh for the family of the deceased security guard Ramashankar Yadav. Although, two very contradictory statements were given by MP ATS Chief and Bhopal Inspector General f Police. ATS Chief Sanjeev Shami told reporters that no weapons had been recovered by the police from the 8 men whereas, Bhopal Inspector General of Police Yogesh Choudhari said that “four firearms and three sharp-edged weapons” had been recovered from the bodies.
