The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has revised the list of dignitaries who are to be seated on the dais during the inaugural ceremony of the much-awaited Kochi Metro. Two names have been included in the revised list and these include ‘Metro Man’ E Sreedharan and Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala. This was revealed by none other than the Chief Minsiter’s office in a tweet that said: Following GoK’s request, @PMOIndia has informed that E. Sreedharan & Oppn. leader will be included in the #KochiMetro inauguration. Addressing the media, BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan told reporters today that he has received confirmation that a final list is being prepared by the PMO pertaining to the list of dignitaries to be seated on the dais at the inaugural ceremony of the Kochi Metro. He added that it is the state government that is the proper authority to confirm if it has received the final list.
Reacting to these developments, KPCC president, and senior Congress leader MM Hassan lashed out at the Centre, saying that the PMO is indulging in ”narrow politics” citing security issues. He also pointed out that the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had sent a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office, requesting the names of Dr. E. Sreedharan and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala to be included on the dais.

Dr. E.Sreedharan on his part, had earlier today told Mathrubhumi News that he is not hurt about being excluded from the dais and that ”there is no need for controversy” on this issue. He also expressed disappointment that he could not complete Phase 1 of the project within three years, which was a promise he had made to the people. However, he had stated, “People have supported Kochi Metro fully and they have co-operated with the project despite many inconveniences that were caused to them.”
The Kochi Metro inauguration is a much-anticipated event in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate it on June 15 and he will also be the first official passenger to board the metro.
