In a shocking event, a pregnant woman in Kerala lost her baby after she was kicked in the stomach. A Left activist last month in Kerala’s Kozhikode allegedly kicked in the stomach of the woman due to which she lost her baby. The woman was identified as 28-year-old Jaana Sibby. Seven pro-left activists were arrested amongst whom is a local leader of the state’s ruling party — Communist Party of India (Marxist). Earlier, on January 28, seven men had allegedly gatecrashed into Sibby’s house and beat up her husband over a land dispute. When Sibby tried to protect her husband by shielding him and stopping the attackers, they allegedly kicked her in the stomach.
Sibby who is 28-year-old started bleeding and was rushed to the hospital, where she was forced for an abortion. The 28-year-old has a son. The police have reported that the attack was the result of a dispute between neighbours over land.
The woman had called the police 15 minutes prior to the attack and had asked for help. On February 2, the family filed a complaint about the assault on the woman. The family has withdrawn the case claiming pressure as the reason behind their decision, as per an NDTV report. As per the 28-year-old woman, an activist threatened to chop off her husband’s legs. However, CPM has denied that it is connected to the shocking incident in any way.
Sadly, this is not the first time when people have been ignorant towards a pregnant woman. Last month, a woman was forced to give birth to the baby at the entrance gate of a Community Health Centre. The reason for this was that the woman did not have an Aadhaar card and so the medical staff had refused to admit her for delivery.
