In another attack in Kashmir, an Army convoy was fired on by terrorists, according to Times Now. According to latest reports, the firing was still on and 4 jawans have been injured in the shooting. The army convoy driver has also reportedly been killed in the shooting. Meanwhile, Times Now has reported that the Lashkar e Taiba was behind the attacksEarlier today, the security forces had cordoned off more than 20 villages in the Shopian district. These actions had been taken in the wake of a number of recent attacks in the valley, ANI had reported. The report had also stated that search operations and raids had started in the district. It was also reported that similar raids had been carried out in Kulgam, after the Army had been informed about the presence of two terrorists who were responsible for the killing of 7 people, including 5 policemen, according to PTI.
These suspected terrorists had barged into a post guarding the court complex of southern Shopian district late on Tuesday night and decamped with five service rifles – four INSAS rifles and an AK-47 rifle. The Jammu and Kashmir Police meanwhile had announced a cash prize in exchange of information on suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militant, Umer Majid.
Posters of Majid have been set up on walls of Kulgam district to help identify the terrorist and help the security forces to get to him. Majid had joined the Hizbul Mujahideen camp in 2016 and has reportedly been active in the region for some time now, the police told reporters. The police had further said that he had been held responsible for the earlier acts of terror in and around Kulgam.
