Kartik Purnima 2016: The nation soaked into the celebration of Kartik Purnima at the crack of the dawn on Monday. The festival, also known as Tripuri Purnima, is a Hindu and Jain holy festival which falls on the Purnima (full moon day) or fifteenth day of the Kartika month as per the Hindu calendar. Here is a quick look on the Puja vidhi to be followed on this auspicious day:
1: On Kartik Purnima, it is considered pious to take a holy dip in sacred water body like river Ganga in the morning hours, which is known as ‘Kartik snan’;
2: After the holy dip, the devotees offer prayers to Lord Shiva and wish for the prosperity and longevity of themselves and their family;
3: The devotees also observe fast on the day;
4: The devotees donate food and money to the Brahmins and needy people; and
5: The festival ends with offering ‘arghya’ (water) to the moon.
