Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah today equalled his Congress party with Pandavas and Opposition BJP with the Kauravas of the Mahabharata. Speaking in Bengaluru, he said that while his party was going on the right path, the BJP was on the wrong path. “Election is like war. We are ‘Pandavas’ who are walking on the right path and BJP people are ‘Kauravas’ who are walking on the wrong path,” he was quoted as saying by ANI. The statement of the Karnataka CM has come months ahead of elections in the state.
Last week, the chief minister attacked both BJP and the RSS by calling them “Hindu extremists.” The BJP had hit back daring him to arrest its as well as RSS leaders. After coming under intense attack from the opposition, Siddaramiah had said BJP and RSS had “Hindutva extremists”.
When asked about his remarks, the CM said he called them “Hindutva extremists.” “I had said they are Hindutva terrorists. I am also a Hindu, but I’m a Hindu with humanity, they are Hindus without humanity. That is the difference between me and… (them),” he was quoted as saying by PTI.
Quoting a Kannada proverb, he said, “it is like one touching his shoulder to check when called a pumpkin thief,” explaining that that one with a guilty conscience does not need any accuser. Slamming him, the BJP alleged, “if there is terrorism in this country today, Congress is the main reason for it, also for the situation in Kashmir”. Further accusing the Congress of encouraging the Khalistan movement, it said, “we have lost several officers, soldiers, leaders and also prime minister because of it,” it added.
The party also alleged the Congress had “sheltered, financed and trained” the LTTE as well as its leader Prabhakaran. The chief minister also alleged that the BJP, the RSS and the Bajrang Dal have “terrorists” in their organisations, the charge that was rubbished by the saffron party. “They are themselves like terrorists in a way. The BJP, the RSS and the Bajrang Dal also have terrorists within,” the CM had said.
