Lalita Dabas, wife of Kabaddi star Rohit Kumar Chillar, today committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her parents’ house, alleging harassment in connection with dowry, against her husband and in-laws. In a two and a half hour recorded message, before her death, Lalita accused her in-laws of mental and physical harassment as one of the major issues among many others in their marriage.
The 26-year old pro-kabaddi player got married with Lalita, 28, seven months ago and according to police reports this was Lalita’s second marriage. Facing physical and mental tortures from her in-laws and husband, Lalita used to stay at her parent’s place since September 24.
A case has been registered at the Nangloi police station, against Rohit Kumar and his parents under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sectios 304-B (dowry death) and 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty).
Lalita also left a suicide note before her death, mentioning reasons of her death, making her in-laws responsible for her decision to end life. Lalita’s father blamed Rohit for dropping her midway instead of bringing her back home after she started living with her parents from September 24.
Police are in search for Rohit’s parents, who are absconding after the incident happened. Lalita’s father, Karan Singh claimed that there was a Sedan gifted to Rohit’s family during the wedding allthough his parents were expecting an SUV.
