Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi shortly and is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. Mufti is likely to hold talks with PM Modi over the ongoing unrest in Jammu and Kahsmir. The J&K chief minister’s Delhi visit comes a day after she held a meeting with Home Minister Rajnath Singh followed by a joint press conference.
Mehbooba during the press conference, lost her cool on a question raised by a journalist. Mufti was infuriated after being asked about the disproportionate use of force on protesters and the allegation of swapping roles and views with her predecessor Omar Abdullah on the protests. Rajnath, who was sitting beside Mufti, was seen smiling during the conversation.
Talking to reporters, Singh indicated government’s willingness to talk to separatists and also said that an alternative to pellet guns is coming soon. On Monday, a delegation of Kashmir’s Opposition parties led by former chief minister Omar Abdullah also held talks with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister and urged him to initiate a dialogue with all stakeholders to bring normalcy in the state.
More than 70 people have reportedly been killed and 1000 injured in the clashes which broke out after the July 8 killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani in valley.
