Shabir Shah, Geelani, Hurriyat, Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir, Yasin Malik Shabir Shah had joined hands with Geelani in 2015 and was appointed as the General Secretary on November 25.

In a recent development in Jammu and Kashmir, separatist leader Shabir Shah has resigned from the post of General Secretary. Shabir Shah had joined hands with Geelani in 2015 and was appointed as the General Secretary on November 25. According to reports, there was an internal revolt and Shabir Shah indicated his disappointment with Geelani as the elder leader did not bother to consult him in his important decisions but recommended JKLF Chairman Yasin Malik. However, Shah has rejected reports of internal ruckus in the party.

“Please don’t try to twist the facts. The reality is that I have not been able to do justice with the ‘position’ that Hurriyat had assigned to me. The post of General Secretary is very important and to do justice with this post, one needs free movement. Authorities have crippled my wings and from past three and a half years, I was able to visit a place only twice. On February 20 last month, I had written to Syed Ali Geelani to appoint any leader as General Secretary who could roam freely. It is incorrect to say that I have resigned. I just wanted a person to be the General Secretary who could do justice and play a key role in making Hurriyat strong. Due to my continuous incarceration, I am unable to manage the affairs”, Shah said.

Shabir Shah said that he is still a part of the Hurriyat, but he is a free man now, as he was unable to participate in a single meeting due his continuous detention. Shabir Shah is a DFP ( Democratic Freedom Party) leader, and has served more than 25 years of imprisonment, espoused as ‘prisoner of conscience’ by Amnesty International.
