Congress leader and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor has said that it is impossible to isolate Pakistan globally, as both China and the US, several other countries have significant reasons to stay engaged with the neighbouring country.

Shashi Tharoor further said that the government’s claim of winning support of several countries in conveying to Pakistan that its continued sponsorship of terrorism against India is unacceptable is largely true, as was the case during the UPA rule in the aftermath of 26/11 terror attack.

During an interview with CNN-News 18, the Thiruvananthapuram MP on the recent ‘khoon ki dalali’ statement by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, said that the media in the country excessively fond of focusing on a word or a phrase rather than looking at its meaning or the political intent behind a remark as he was pointing out hat the ruling party was trying to make political capital out of the blood of soldiers. The recent hoardings and posters that the BJP has put up in the UP were the case in point, on which he was stressing on, added the Congress leader.

He also felt that former prime minister Manmohan Singh deserves more respect, not only because of his personal qualities but also for his professional stewardship of the nation at a difficult time. Shashi Tharoor said that the former prime minister’s image was unfairly tarnished during the 2014 general elections, but history will be kind to him and his accomplishments will be remembered for years to come.
