The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’s (ISIS) Egypt affiliate has claimed responsibility for the attacks on two military checkpoints in Egypt’s restive Sinai Peninsula, which killed at least five soldiers, a statement posted by the terror group on social media said, reported The New York Times.

According to Egyptian authorities, the gunmen targeted the checkpoints near the northern town of Sheikh Zuweid.

The facilities were among the military installations attacked by ISIS militants two weeks ago, in which 17 soldiers were killed.
