MobiKwik and the Indian railway ctering and tourism corporation (IRCTC) have declared a partnership enabling the passengers to make e-cash payments on Food on Track app. This is IRCTC’s official app, that allows passengers to order food from restaurants and have it delivered to their coaches. MobiKwik became the primary wallet for IRCTc last year and has been used by passengers to book their railways tickets. Mobile Wallet firms have signed up, both offline and online with various, and are enabling payments using their wallets and payment gateways. MobiKwik works as a payment gateway for debit and credit card payments on Uber. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation is a subsidiary of the Indian Railways that handles the catering, tourism and online ticketing operations of the Indian Railways. According to a press release, Mrinal Sinha, COO, MobiKwik has said that, with 32 million users, and a year long partnership with IRCTC is the largest mobile payments company in India. He said that MobiKwik transactions wallet is fast and convinient. Passengers can pre-order food at over 300 stations from prominent food chains such as Dominos, KFC, Punjab Grill etc.
Mobikwik has recently added more features to its platform. It has a launched a lighter version of the app, which can also be accessed in areas with patchy and slow mobile connection. The company has enabled cash loading through cash pick up in selected cities and cash deposit at over 1 lakh locations across a thousand cities in India. This will be very helpful for all those who do not have access to net banking, credit and debit cards or aren’t comfortable using the same, Mr. Sinha added saying that the service has recently concluded 1 million transactions.
According to Google-BSG reports, digital payments will be a $500 billion market by 2020, comprising of 15% of India’s GDP. Thus IRCTC’s shift from traditonal cash transacrtions to the digital counterparts through MobiKwik is easily understandable. Paying via the app with also help the travellers to get food delivered to them from their favourite restaurants to their coaches in stations where the stoppage time is quite less.
