As the third edition of the International Yoga Day is all set to take place on June 21, the ‘yoga fever’ has already hit the Latin American envoys in India. Days ahead of the event that celebrates the importance of yoga in our lives, heads of missions of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba and Mexico have actively participated in yoga sessions recently. These yoga sessions were conducted in the presence of a joint secretary-rank official from the AYUSH Ministry and office-bearers of India-Latin America friendship association, reported Indian Express.

International Yoga Day is the brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he proposed the idea during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. As per reports, while PM Modi will be celebrating the International Yoga Day in Lucknow this year, more than 100 countries across the globe have planned to organise various events to celebrate the day.

As per a report by India Today, PM Modi while presenting the International Yoga Day proposal at UNGA had said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.”

Even India’s Yoga guru Baba Ramdev had appealed everyone to come out and perform Yoga. Speaking to ANI, Ramdev highlighted the importance and benefits of Yoga. He said, “I would appeal everyone to come out and perform Yoga on the Yoga day (June 21). Modi ji will be in Lucknow and I will be in Ahmedabad. Yoga is compulsory for all professionals. Yoga gives you fitness, sharp memory and boosts your confidence. Hence, it is a very important exercise for a human being.”
