India’s stand that Laskar e Taiba was behind the Uri attack stood vindicated on Tuesday after the Pakistan-based terrorist group claimed responsibility of the same.
After the attack as many as 19 Indian soldiers lost their lives, angering the people of the country so much that government was under pressure to take some serious steps against the neighbouring country. The army then on September 29 launched surgical attack destroying some terrorist camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and also killing some of them.
Even though Pakistan continued to deny any surgical strike on its land and maintained that it was a cross border firing. However, the world community including the US, supporting India’s right of self-defence. It also asked Pakistan to keep their house in order. Recently it even threatened that the US would not hesitate to act alone to destroy Pakistani terror networks as the spy agency ISI is not taking actions against them.
After the Uri attack, India decided to revise the Indus Waters Treaty, where it decided to exploit the eastern rivers to the maximum. At the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was quoted saying, “Rakt aur paani ek saath nahin beh sakta (blood and water cannot flow together)”.
India also succeeded in sidelining Pakistan from the SAARC as the countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan decided not to attend, which evetually had to be cancelled by Pakistan. During the recently concluded BRICS-BIMSTEC summit several countries also expressed their concern on terrorism menace.
