Indian envoy to US Navtej Sarna’s mother was allegedly beaten up by her grandson over a property dispute in the national capital, a report by ‘The Indian Express’ has said. As per the complaint of the 86-year old Surjit, her daughter’s son is putting pressure on her over the ownership of the house in Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park.
After receiving a call , the police reached Max Saket hospital, where the woman alleged that she was beaten up by her daughter’s son, Karan Dev Chopra.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Romil Baaniya, the case has been registered under IPC sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) at CR Park police station. The accused, who is a corporate lawyer, has been arrested. Surjit stays with Navtej’s children, the police added.
“She told us that Chopra was pressuring her to transfer the property in his name. She has sustained injuries on her eyes, forehead, knees and other parts of her body. The woman was admitted to Max Saket hospital, where she is under treatment,” Baaniya said.
According to the FIR, Chopra was sleeping when her servant woke him up and asked him to go to his room, Chopra got angry, after which he went to Surjit’s room and threatened to kill her.

“When I ran towards the balcony, he followed me and held my neck by his hand. He tried to strangle me and smashed my head against the wall,” the woman has alleged in the FIR, Indian Express reports.
