The Indian Army was involved in a firefight with the Naga insurgent camps along the Myanmar border. The incident reportedly took place around 4:45 am when a team of Indian Para Commandos inflicted damage on NSCN-K insurgents close to Langkhu village near the Indo-Myanmar border. The news was confirmed by the Eastern Command through its official Twitter handle where it stated that there were no casualties from the Indian side.

“Reports of casualties to #IndianArmy personnel factually incorrect. Firefight occurred along Indo-Myanmar border at 0445 hrs today @adgpi,” the Eastern Command said in a tweet. It further said that heavy casualties were inflicted on the Naga insurgents. “Heavy casualties reportedly inflicted on NSCN(K) cadre. No casualties suffered by Indian Security Forces,” another tweet by Northern Command read. It also clarified that the Indian troops didn’t cross the border and it was not a surgical strike.

Here is the full statement issued by Northern Command:

In the early morning hours of 27 September, a column of Indian Army while operating along Indo-Myanmar border was fired upon by unidentified insurgents. Own troops reacted swiftly and brought down heavy retaliatory fire on the insurgents. The insurgents then broke the contact and fled from the spot. As per inputs, a large number of casualties were suffered by the insurgents. Own troops suffered no casualties during the fight.

It is reiterated that own troops did not cross the international border.

This news comes exactly one year after India had carried out surgical strikes on seven terror launch pads across the Line Of Control (LoC) with the Army inflicting “significant casualties” on terrorists preparing to infiltrate from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). According to a report by PTI, these strikes took place on September 29, 2016.
