All India Congress Committee (AICC) has initiated further changes in the party’s organisation and replaced general secretary Mohan Prakash in charge of Madhya Pradesh with Deepak Babaria. The party leadership also appointed two AICC secretaries in-charge, Zubair Khan and Sanjay Kapoor, to assist him in handling the party affairs in Madhya Pradesh. The party further appointed Lok Sabha MP Sushmita Dev as the president of its women’s wing, the All India Mahila Congress by replacing Shobha Oza. Babaria was formerly one of the trusted lieutenants of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi and an AICC secretary in charge of Kerala. The party elevated him to the position of general secretary.
Congress sees a ray of hope in Babaria who is expected to put the party house in order in Madhya Pradesh and bring it back to power where it has been out of power the last 14 years. He was one of the founding members the party’s students’ wing, in Gujarat in 1973. Babaria also enjoys complete trust of the Party’s vice President Rahul Gandhi. “Congress President Sonia Gandhi has constituted a new team to hold the charge of looking after party affairs in Madhya Pradesh and has appointed Deepak Babaria as AICC general secretary in-charge,” AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said in a statement. Mohan Prakash who was formerly in-charge of Madhya Pradesh was replaced since he had come under a lot of criticism over his style of functioning. Despite the replacement, Prakash will hold Maharashtra in his capacity as AICC general secretary.
