After his Twitter account was suspended for his offensive tweets, Bollywood singer, Abhijeet Bhattacharya on Friday sent a video message to the organisers of All India Hindu Convention in which he said that he is associated with Hindu, Hindutva and Hindustan. Abhijeet was supposed to attend the convention today, but due to some unavoidable circumstances, gave it a miss. PTI reported that the 58-year-old singer in a video, sent a message to the organisers of the convention saying, “I am associated with Hindu, Hindutva and Hindustan. I will follow your footsteps.” Abhijeet who was recently in the news due to his tweets on numerous occasions had said in the past that he gives priority to the nation and patriotism over music.
Abhijeet has always expressed his opinion strongly and shared his view through various social media platforms. But the previous month after his offensive tweets, his Twitter account was suspended. On May 22, Abhijeet Bhattacharya insulted some female Twitter users, in particular, JNU student-activist Shehla Rashid. He wrote about Shehla, “There is rumour she took money for two hours and didn’t satisfy the client… Big racket. (sic)” A complaint was filed thereafter and Abhijeet’s Twitter account got suspended.
Not only this, Abhijeet targetted the micro-blogging site and told IANS in a WhatsApp conversation from Interlaken in Switzerland, “Twitter is a platform for anti-nationals, anti-Indian Army, anti-Modi, anti-Hindu and for terrorist supporters. I would say all are Naxals, they should be punished severely. It’s jihadi Twitter.” He declared, “We are not only singers… We are the voice of our nation and come out openly against anti-nationals. So, Twitter is trying to shut our voice.”
