Pakistani singer Shafqat Amanat Ali, known for many Sufi-style hits in the Indian films industry, while condemning the Uri attacks, also spoke on the issue of artists going back to Pakistan. After the controversial tweets by another famous Pakistani singer Adnan Sami, Ali said that the former is not his hero, rather a ‘hero of the terrorists’. Speaking to TV news channel India Today, Shafqat Amanat Ali said, “Adnan Sami has lost fat as well as his brains.” He hit out at Sami, saying that he backed India during the strikes. Earlier on the day of the surgical strikes incident was announced, Sami had written on Twitter, “Big Congratulations to @PMOIndia & our brave Armed forces for a brilliant, successful & mature strategic strike against #terrorism ! #Salute”.
Following this, the singer received a lot of backlashes, and criticism for taking India’s side, to which Sami has a befitting reply, when he wrote, “Pakistanis r outraged by my earlier tweet. Their outburst clearly means they see Terrorist & Pakistan as the same! #selfgoal #stopterrorism.” Meanwhile, MNS workers and supporters had declared the boycott of Pakistani artists like Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan and more. Adnan is being spewed venom at because he supported India’s stand. Fawad Khan was especially targetted for his silence over the Uri incident. After the threats by MNS, Khan left India, though the incidents could be mutually exclusive.
Earlier Shafqat spoke to another news channel Times Now and said that he condemned the Uri attack, and added that every artist in Pakistan has the same stand as him, yet because of threat letters issue to them, they refuse to speak out.
