Heart of Asia summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacks Pakistan; says ‘countries financing, training terrorism’

Speaking at the 6th Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan at Heart of Asia summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed on collective spirit to tackle terrorism in the entire South Asian region. “Terrorism and externally induced instability pose the gravest threat too Afghanistan’s peace, stability and prosperity,” PM Modi said. Short of naming Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his inaugural address at the Heart of Asia meet said, “The growing arc of terrorist violence endangers our entire region. As such, support for voices of peace in Afghanistan alone is not enough.” “It must be backed by resolute action. Not just against forces of terrorism, but also against those who support, shelter, train and finance them,” he said asserting that terrorism and externally induced instability pose the gravest threat to Afghanistan’s peace, stability and prosperity.

He also drew an equation between cultural similarities of Punjab’s Amritsar and Afghanistan. “Amritsar and Pakistan have deep cultural ties,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister said that India is commited for the development of Afghanistan: “On India’s part, our commitment to our brave Afghan brothers and sisters is absolute and unwavering,” the PM said. He also stressed on the need to to positively connect Afghanistan with other countries of the region.  Modi said that peace and stability of entire Asia-pacific is at stake.
