The BJP government in Haryana has taken up a clean-up drive against fraudulent builders in Gurgaon.
The Assistant Registrar, Gurgaon has issued notices to office bearers of the Shanti Niketan Society, Sector -52, Gurgaon, to produce society documents and accounts within seven days, failing which action as per law will be taken against them.
The Shanti Niketan Group Housing Society was registered under Haryana Cooperative Societies Act, 1984 on May 23, 2003 by a group of builders with the commitment to build 96 flats of different denominations.
The flats were sold out for an amount exceeding Rs.70 crores, which was collected from buyers. But the society is yet not complete the project after 12 years. Work stopped in the premises in 2010.
The builders are not ready to place the documents and accounts of the society in front of the buyers who are share holders in the society, nor have they taken any steps to resume construction.
The buyers approached the Haryana Government for relief and in response the government has taken responsibility to get the fraudulent builders booked.
Notices have been sent to the President, Vice-President and Secretary among others.
Prominent among the builders is Mangal Sain Mittal, who is the Chairman of the Ramada Hotel in Gurgaon. His hotel is flourishing while common buyers who have invested in a society for construction of which he was responsible are running from pillar to post to seek justice.
The positive action taken by the Haryana Government to provide relief to the members of Shanti Niketan Society will set the pace for clearing the mess in builder driven housing projects in Gurgaon. This is a welcome development for honest tax-paying citizens who are suffering at the hands of unscrupulous builders.?
