Who will succeed Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh? That question has been haunting the Dera Sacha Sauda followers ever since the controversial godman was arrested and sent to jail. Now, it emerges that the answer is almost here. The Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted in two rape cases and was sent to jail for a period of 20 years, but his sect continues to function. As soon as, peace started to return in the region following the violence unleashed by followers after he was sent to jail, his family and core committee members of the Dera came together to name the next Dera chief.
In a meeting held on Wednesday, at Ram Rahim’s ancestral village Gudsar Modiya in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district, his mother Naseeb Kaur, wife Harjit Kaur and son Jasmeet Singh Insan met other members of the sect, as per a Times of India report. According to the report, in the meeting, the attendees almost finalised the name of Jasmeet (32) as his father’s successor and first in line to take the position of the Dera chief. Jasmeet is reportedly married to the daughter of former MLA and Congress leader Harminder Singh Jassi.
Earlier, it was being reported that Honeypreet Insan would succeed Ram Rahim as the Dera chief, but with opposition emerging from the Dera chief’s family, exactly what her standing is now is unclear. Honeypreet is considered very close to Ram Rahim. She studied in a school run by the Dera management. While Dera followers say that Honeypreet is like a daughter to Ram Rahim, her former husband Vishwas Gupta had once raised questions about their relationship, according to Indian Express. She had acted in several films of Ram Rahim as important characters. She is also known to be influential in the Dera.
