The Election Commission of India has announced the dates on which the state assembly elections will take place in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh today. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AK Joti announced the dates and schedule during a media conference today. Here are the Updates:
5: 30 PM: “Election is mainly against BJP and we know their strengths and weaknesses. They are relying on Narendra Modi. We are self reliant and focus on development,” Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh told ANI.
4: 55 PM: Poll schedule planned such that Himachal result does not impact Gujarat elections: CEC said during the press conference.
4: 45 PM: In 2012, the Congress contested the elections under the leadership of Virbhadra Singh from Himchal Pradesh and won 36 of the 68 seats.
4: 40 PM: Gujarat assembly elections to be held prior to 18 December, Election commission said.
4: 35 PM: It is being speculated that the election dates for Gujarat will be announced at a later date.
4: 30 PM: Himachal Pradesh assembly elections to be held on 9 November and counting of votes to be on 18 December: Election Commission
4: 27 PM: Later during its announcement, the EC also mentioned that Chennai’s RK Nagar by-election will be conducted before December 31.
4: 25 PM: Increased the size of screen on VVPAT machines to 10 cm by 5.6 cm for the voters to able to verify their vote easily: CEC
4: 20 PM: Bulk SMSes and voice messages on phone shall also be in purview of election advertisements: Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Jyoti
4: 15 PM: Model code of conduct for Himachal Pradesh assembly election comes into effect from now itself: CEC AK Jyoti
4: 10 PM: For the first time Himachal Pradesh will have 136 all women managed booths: CEC Achal Kumar Jyoti
