West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today slammed the Narendra Modi government, saying demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST) are the “biggest scams”. “Demonetisation and GST biggest scams. We will not bow down our head, we will be happy to go to jail,” ANI quoted her as saying.
Talking to reporters about the Presidential election 2017 in which her party is backing Opposition’s Meira Kumar, Banerjee said, “It’s a vote against injustice. For the sake of the country, we urge everyone to not support BJP and stand beside people.” She also alleged that the Centre has ruined India’s relations with neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. “Centre has ruined relationship with Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh. We are the worst sufferers. Where is NIA? intelligence agencies? Why are the borders kept open? What is SSB, IB, RAW doing here?,” she asked while alleging, “People belonging to the Jamaat are being allowed inside.”
Banerjee has been one of the biggest vocal critics of Modi government’s policies.
In a Facebook post on June 29, two days before the GST rollout, Banerjee had flayed the “unnecessary hurry” to roll out GST. She also termed the GST roll-out as another “epic blunder” by the Centre. “We are deeply concerned about GST implementation. After demonetisation, this unnecessary disastrous hurry is another epic blunder of the Centre,” she said.
“ur repeated suggestions to take some more time to properly implement GST have fallen in deaf ears. The entire business community, especially the small and medium ones, are scared and confused. Only 60 hours are left before this ill planned launch and no one knows for sure what’s happening!” she added.
In West Bengal TMC, CPI(M) and Congress’ have supported Opposition nominee Meira Kumar.
