A government school building was set ablaze by some persons in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. A major portion of the building has been damaged, a report said. Fire tenders were pressed into the action. Fire broke out in Government Higher Secondary School building at Kabamarg in Anantnag district this afternoon, a police official said. He said fire tenders were rushed to put out the fire as locals also assisted in the firefighting job.

Meanwhile, in another incident during the previous night, fire broke out in the Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya school at Aishmuqam, the official said adding the building suffered partial damage before the blaze was put out. The cause of the fire in both incidents has not been ascertained yet, he said.

Earlier a primary school building and two vehicles were set ablaze by some persons in Kashmir in separate incidents of arson over the past 24 hours, police said. This was the 19th school building set on fire by unknown persons since the current unrest began in Kashmir following killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces on July 8.
