Google today paid tributes to B R Ambedkar on its homepage with a special doodle on the birth anniversary of the legendary social reformer, who has emerged as the third most searched historic personality after Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru on the search engine giant.
“As political parties and people across the nation celebrate the 124th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar, one of India’s most important and charismatic leaders, Google search trends reflect his timeless relevance and popularity and shows him to be the 3rd most searched historic personality, after Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru,” a Google India release said.
With the rise in internet literacy and digital transformation, India has seen significant interest building up with more people getting on to the web to gain knowledge about the Indian history and its leaders, it said.
“Google search trend analysis highlights the significant and continued rise in search interest around Dr Ambedkar both from India and globally over the past decade.”
The architect of the Constitution takes the third spot after Gandhi and Nehru in terms of search queries online.
In terms of search interest from within India, queries on him continue to gain significant search interest from states such as Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh followed by Maharashtra, Delhi, Puducherry, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan and Karnataka, the release said.
Besides the Father of the Nation, the first Prime Minister and the first Law Minister, other personalities in the pantheon of India’s iconic leaders of the 20th century to be searched on Google include Subhash Chandra Bose and Vallabhbhai Patel.
Bose and Patel, however, figure after these three leaders on Google search trends.
The US-based internet behemoth has created the doodle with Ambedkar on its homepage which has already garnered over 5,00,000 hits so far, the release added.
