Goa police will seek help from their Maharashtra and Delhi counterparts for the security of the BRICS summit to be held in October in the coastal state.

“The preparations for the summit are going on in full swing. We have already analysed how much resources are with us and how much additional manpower and gadgets are required,” Deputy Inspector General of Police Vimal Kumar Gupta told reporters here yesterday.

The state police has already shared data with the Union Home Ministry and other state governments which will be helping in the law and order during the summit.

“Delhi and Maharashtra police have assured to provide their trained manpower and equipment during the event,” Gupta said.

Responding to a question, he said Goa police couldn’t train its manpower for the purpose due to “scarcity of time”.

The DIG said some equipment which are used for one time or scarcely in use would be procured from police forces of Maharashtra and Delhi.

Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar recently reviewed the security arrangements for the summit, he said.

“The planning has also started on traffic movements during the event,” he added.

The BRICS summit is scheduled to be held in Goa on October 15-16 wherein heads of different countries will participate.
