Global Citizen Festival: PM Narendra Modi addresses 80,000 young ‘global citizens’

With International stars and bands set to perform live at the Global Citizen Festival, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will, reportedly, be addressing the concert through video-conference at 7:40 pm, today.

Despite being on the receiving end of the Opposition over demonetisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took a lighter note over the issue at the Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai. “I always look forward to being among young people. It refreshes and re-energises me.

The Global Citizen Festival 2016 India has officially begun with performances by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, American pop star Demi Lovato, Arijit Singh, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Sonakshi Sinha, Shraddha Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar.

With International stars and bands set to perform live at the Global Citizen Festival, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the concert through video-conference.

The much awaited concert is set to witness American rapper Jay-Z and popular rock band Coldplay, performing live at MMRDA Grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex. The Vamps and Demi Lovato will also be seen performing in the annual music festival that started in 2012.

Also Indian celebrities, Amitabh Bachchan, A.R. Rahman, Shah Rukh Khan, Freida Pinto, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra, Monali Thakur and Arijit Singh are expected to be present at the mega-event.

In a post shared at Twitter, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan wrote, “The Global Citizen Concert tomorrow at BKC, and COLDPLAY and JAY z and many others. COME support poverty eradication.”
With people over excited about the concert, Global Citizen Festival,is the biggest mussical fest featuring rock bands in India. And this year, with Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin preparing to perform live, the craze among people had escalated.

07:22 pm: Sonakshi entertained the audience with her rendition of “Har Kissi Ko Nahi Milta”.

07:18 pm: Music-composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy enthralled everyone with their hit songs like “Kal Ho Na Ho”, “Breathless” among others.

07:15 pm: Arijit took to the stage and set the mood right as he crooned the “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” title track and then went on to sing his other popular tracks.

07:10 pm: Actress Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor announced the opening of the festival.

Earlier, Chris Martin joined a party with stars from the B-town and had also met Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulakar at school where he also interacted with the kids.

Focusing on major issues like eradicating poverty, quality education, water, sanitation, hygiene and gender equality, the event was organized at the MMRDA Grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex.
