Delhi University with its two campuses- North and South, attracts hordes of students, from Delhi and other states. While the hostels are not fledged enough to house so many outstation students, PGs are one easy option to accommodation. Finding a PG with a caretaker looks like a ‘safe’ option to parents but then does it make the whole system accountable?
Time and again, questions have been raised on the status of women security in the national capital, so much so that it has now become synonymous to ‘Rape Capital’.
But are girls in the city not safe just on the roads? Time to think again, as a shocking incident of an intrusion inside a PG room has come out.
The incident that happened with a Lady Shri Ram College student inside the closed doors of her PG room has put all security assurances to shame.

The incident was shared on ‘Pinjra Tod’, an autonomous platform for rental accommodation issues for University students. The girl living in a south Delhi accommodation shared the horrifying story of how a man walked into her PG room and tried to molest her. The girl managed to escape and lock herself in a nearby room and call the owners.
The molester was beaten and then chased away without any more action taken!
But the reaction of the PG owner and Police was that’s more shocking. While the owner told how ‘girls should behave’, the Police officials brought some moral policing to offer and together they laughed and rebuked the CCTV footage that clearly captured every detail.
The matter has definitely caused alert among st the student residents in and around the Campus. If there are such big lapses in security and above that, such ignorant attitude to something this serious, it’s time the nation puts everything else at rest and figure out what’s wrong.
