Delhi University (DU) professor Nandini Sundar, who was booked under murder charges for allegedly killing a tribal man in Chhattisgarh, has lashed out at authorities for FIR against her. She said, “FIR against us is absurd, we haven’t been there for months.”
An FIR was lodged against her and Archana Prasad (JNU Professor), Vineet Tiwari (of Delhi’s Joshi Adhikar Sansthan), Sanjay Parate (Chhattisgarh CPI (Marxist) State Secretary) and others along with Maoists for the murder of Shamnath Baghel based on the complaint of his wife. Baghel and some of his associates were learned to be spearheading the protest against Naxal activities in their village since April this year. He was killed with sharp weapons on late night on November 4 at his residence in Nama village under Kumakoleng gram panchayat in Tongpal area.
Sundar termed the action as ‘vendetta’. “This is a vendetta against all researchers, journalists, lawyers, activists who are willing to expose complete lawlessness of police,” she said to ANI.

Ms Sundar, an activist, heads the sociology department at the university and has worked extensively in Maoist-hit regions like Bastar. It was on her petition that the Supreme Court banned the state-backed anti-Maoist militia Salwa Judum, calling the force unconstitutional.
