News as received from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirm that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will co-chair the Heart of Asia Conclave-2016 representing India. This edition of HoA will be held in Amritsar in December 3 and 4. The prime motive in this edition will be exploring effective ways to combat terrorism, particularly Pakistan-sponsored terrorists.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani are among the main leaders who will be attending the annual conference. It is also believed that Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Advisor to PM Sharif, Sartaj Aziz will be attending this conference. The previous such conclave was held in Islamabad last year.
The Heart of Asia or Istanbul Process conference was established as a platform to address the regional issues, encouraging security, political, and economic cooperation among Afghanistan and its neighbouring countries.
Its main objective is to counter terrorism, narcotics, poverty and extremism. The Afghanistan envoy to India Shaida Mohammad Abdali said, “Terrorism is greatest threat facing the region, hope HoA conference will adopt a counter-terror framework.”
