Slamming Muslim bodies on Saturday for their decision to boycott Uniform Civil Code, former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee said that the attitude by them shows that regressive mentality is at play.
The Muslim Personal Law Board and some other Muslim Organisations had on Thursday announced their decision to boycott the Uniform Civil Code by saying that India’s cultural diversity should be respected.
While pointing out that the Law Commission is biased, Hazrat Maulana Wali Rehman of the Muslim Personal Law Board (MPLB) had said that it was working as a government body and not like an independent one.

Muslim bodies also claimed that Hindus practised polygamy more than Muslims and their divorce rates were also high.
The MPLB’s reactions had come after the law commission released a questionnarie last week, hich included 16 questions on the need need of UCC, its impact on women’s progress, triple talaq among other things.
The questionnaire came after a case was taken up in the Supreme Court on the relevance of triple talaq.
On Friday, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu advised the board not to drag the PM in it, which had earlier called him dictator.
