Earthquake in Uttarakhand: A 3.4 magnitude earthquake hit Uttarkashi region of Uttarakhand on Monday morning. The earthquake hit the region at around 10 AM. Although it was a minor earthquake, tremors were felt in the Uttarkashi region of Uttarakhand. Dehradun which is the capital city of Uttarakhand falls under one of the most earthquake-prone areas along with Guwahati, Srinagar, Delhi, Jamnagar, Patna, Meerut, Amritsar and Jalandhar, according to seismic zoning map issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards. Around 30 more Indian cities fall under the category of moderate intensity zone.
A 3.1 magnitude earthquake had hit Assam on the 12th of December. North India has been experiencing earthquake tremors since quite sometime now. An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Ritcher scale had hit Delhi and strong tremors were felt in the surrounding areas.
