A shocking news came to the fore after an audio tape surfaced and allegedly indicated that a conversation took place between Mumbai attack mastermind and JuD chief Hafiz Saeed and slain Hizbul commander Burhan Wani when the latter was alive. Wani was purportedly heard seeking blessings from Saeed and proposing a joint united front to escalate militancy in Jammu and Kashmir and against Indian security establishment. Saeed, designated a terrorist by the United States with a USD 10 million bounty on his head, heads the Jamaat-Ud-Dawa( JuD), which is seen as a front group for the outlawed LeT. The conversation is believed to have taken place a few day before Wani’s killing.

According to CNN-News18 report, Indian intelligence agencies intercepted an audio-tape of the conversation between Wani from his jungle hideout and Saeed sitting in Pakistan. CNN-News18, however, said it could not independently verify the authenticity of the tape in which Wani is also purportedly requesting Saeed to extend more support to Lashkar militants inside Valley. Security agency said that Wani reaching out to Lashkar pointed towards a concerted effort by Kashmiri militant organisations to bury their differences and pose a larger united threat to India, prompted by their Pakistani handlers.

According to the report, Saeed is heard praising Wani, but even while listening to all that he was saying, the Lashkar leader refuses to open his mind. The tape begins with a call from Saeed’s location in Pakistan where his assistant tells Wani that he is handing over the phone to Peer Sahib (Hafiz Saeed). “You people are living in very difficult conditions. But you don’t have to worry. Whatever you need just tell us we are ready for every help. Will be ready for anything. You just have to tell us,” Saeed tells Wani. Wani tells Saeed that “the enemy is almost defeated and we have to maintain this.” “We have to go all out on attacks and shouldn’t lose this opportunity. For this we need ammunition and support from the back. We should work together for this (Hizbul & Lashkar),” Wani is heard as saying.

Earlier, Saeed had claimed that a LeT Ameer was leading the funeral procession of Wani who was killed in an encounter. “Burhan Wani was martyred. Lakhs of Kashmiris came to the streets to attend his funeral. Did you see a man who was being carried on shoulders by the crowd? Do you know this youth who was leading the procession? Do you know who he is? He is ameer of LeT,” said Saeed, the founder of Laskar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Wading into the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had attacked India over the killing of Wani and even made some strong comments against the action of the security forces in the Valley.
