Attacking PM Narendra Modi over Gorakhpur tragedy, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that “we don’t want such new India”. Rahul said that an India, where parents can get free treatment for their children is all that is needed. The Congress vice-chief said that despite being an MP from Gorakhpur, UP CM Adityanth didn’t pay attention to the medical needs of the district. He termed the incident as a ‘government made tragedy’. “It’s clear that it’s a government made tragedy. Government should take action and not try to cover up,” Congress VP said. Earlier, the Congress party had slammed Adityanath for doing nothing for the hospital.
Speaking to media, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “In spite of being five-time MP from Gorakhpur, he (Adityanath) did nothing for the hospital.” Rahul also met the family of deceased children who lost their lives in Gorakhpur’s BRD hospital. ANI reports that around 71 children lost their lives at the hospital since August 7 due to various causes including encephalitis. Meanwhile, it was reported that Rahul canceled a scheduled visit to BRD hospital to avoid inconvenience to patients.
Adityanath had trained guns on Rahul by saying that the tragedy-struck place should not be allowed to be made a ‘picnic spot’. “The ‘shehzaada’ sitting in Lucknow and the ‘yuvraj’ sitting in Delhi don’t know the importance of cleanliness. We must not allow them to make Gorakhpur a picnic spot,” Chief Minister Adityanth was quoted as saying by ANI.
