An Allahabad high court order today made the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) flyway toll-free. The High Court passed this order after over 80 hearings and three hikes in the toll tax at the (DND) flyway. With the HC order, no vehicle would have to pay toll tax on the DND flyway which is used by thousands of commuters in the National Capital Region (NCR) every day.

The Allahabad High Court has asked the authorities to immediately implement its order. However, the court has reserved its judgement till August 8. Reports said that a division bench of Justice Arun Tandon and Justice Sunita Agrawal said that no one would have to pay any toll on the DND flyway in future.

The HC was hearing this case following a direction of the Supreme Court. During the hearing of the case, the HC had said it was wrong to let the people suffer because of an arbitrary deal between the Noida authority and the company which has set up the flyway. The court had also said it was wrong to charge people after the flyway has already recovered more money than it was spent during its construction.

The Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA) had filed a PIL seeking the scrapping of the DND toll on November 16, 2012.

(More details awaited)
