“People used to say Modi is sleeping, but just like our Army doesn’t speak but instead shows valour, our Defence Minister also doesn’t speak,” PM Narendra Modi said these words while inaugurating Shaurya Smarak at Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal. This is the first time that PM Modi has credited any person, except the army, for the success of surgical strikes along LoC. PM has largely refrained from making any comments over the surgical strikes. As per reports, he had even warned his party men against chest-thumping, for what he believes to be an Army effort. But today’s comment came as a veiled reply to those who used to question PM’s silence post-Uri Attack.
Many leaders, including Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, had questioned PM’s long silence over the issue. While PM chose to remain mum till the surgical strikes. The only comments he had made was in an immediate Tweet, and his Radio Programme Mann Ki Baat. Even after the surgical strikes, PM Modi didn’t utter a word which could be regarded as chest thumping. However, his partymen have always been indulged in chest thumping.
PM Modi added that defence minister Manohar Parrikar believes in performance rather than hullabaloo.
