A special CBI court in Panchkula today reserved its order while hearing a sexual exploitation case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. The court will pronounce the judgement on August 25, as per India TV. The CBI court has also directed the Dera Sacha Sauda’ chief to remain present in the court on the verdict day. The hearing of the case against Ram Rahim Singh is going on for last few years. Meanwhile, the Punjab and Haryana governments have sought central forces to deal with the situation if the verdict goes against Singh, an official told PTI. The Dera chief has a large number of followers in Punjab and Haryana so there are chances of the situation turning tense, therefore, adequate security measures should be put in place, authorities say.
Yesterday, the chief secretaries and police chiefs of Punjab and Haryana also met Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi in Delhi to discuss the security arrangements, Haryana DGP B S Sandhu has said. Sandhu added that Punjab has asked for 250 companies of central forces while Haryana said it needs “sufficient” number of companies. The Haryana DGP said, “We are prepared to deal with any kind of situation and will not allow it to deteriorate.”
Dera chief Singh has been accused of exploiting sexually a former female follower on the outskirts of Sirsa town in Haryana, as per India TV. In 2002, a case was registered by CBI against Singh on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court after anonymous letters were circulated about alleged sexual exploitation of female followers, as per PTI. The CBI had filed the chargesheet in the year 2017. The Dera Sacha Sauda chief has denied the charges.
