All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC) on Thursday sharpened its attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his much-debated move of demonetisation. “We are not blackmailing the govt, we are people talking about the grass root level,” TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien said. O’Brien said while the debate was on in both the Houses, PM Modi “obnoxious” comment saying “Opposition is angry because he did not give time to convert their black money” in Parliament annexe, a report said. “It was irresponsible remark. Prime Minister of country can’t insinuate. Come withdraw those words,” the Rajya Sabha MP said. Putting the onus on the central government to run Parliament, he said, “We are not paralysing the Parliament, it’s govt’s responsibility to run the House.” Speaking to India Today, O’Brien said, “Opposition want a debate in Lok Sabha with a vote.” “Why the government is shying away from the vote?” he wondered. O’Brien also hit out at PM Modi saying, “he is not doing the country a favour by staying in Parliament.” O’Brien said, “Check the GDP number after six months.”
Earlier in Parliament, TMC’s Sudeep Bandopadhyay said the black money holders are happy because the government has fixed the “50-50 ratio”, while poor are suffering. He was referring to the new amendments in IT Act passed by the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. “Black money should be properly punished, but what is happening is that common people are suffering. We simply want discussion with voting. Why is the government not ready for discussion….,” the TMC MP said.
